Java Developer (Financial Services), Contract

A leading Irish financial services firm needs a mid-level Java Developer for a 6-month rolling contract. The role is hybrid, with 2 days a week onsite in Dublin 2. You’ll join the Application Development team on a key strategic investment programme, building secure Spring Boot microservices and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver Java/Spring Boot components and microservices, including persistence, error handling and automated tests
• Implement authentication and authorisation using Spring Security, OAuth2 and JWT
• Investigate and fix security vulnerabilities (OWASP, including injection and XSS), and test the fixes
• Work with development, analyst and operations teams on solution design
• Follow and promote Java development standards and best practice
• Manage work through Azure DevOps within an agile framework
• Keep the codebase clean and follow source control processes
• Mentor and guide junior engineers

Key Skills

• 6+ years’ hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience
• Spring Security, OAuth2 and JWT, with a clear grasp of token acquisition, token validation and access control
• Current OWASP knowledge, with hands-on fixes for injection or XSS issues
• Unit and integration testing (JUnit, Mockito, Spring Boot Test)
• Mentoring junior engineers
• Desirable: Azure DevOps, Kafka, banking/payments/trading experience, encryption and key management
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline
